I am currently building a self-balancing dog, this is my next project after Antarctic. Coming out of the quadruped project, the idea was to reduce the scope to a ‘simpler’ system in order to gain deeper understanding of robotics fundamentals, and produce a more polished build in a shorter amount of time. A self-balancing robot fit the bill as you can get going with a simple PID, but can continue to refine the controls algorithms all the way to a neural network if you will. This project was also an opportunity for me to experiment with new hardware, including a Raspberry Pi 5.

I started this project during the 2025-2026 Christmas break, and have documented the entire process in my Youtube channel. The videos are multiple hours long each and shows every part of CADing, 3D printing, assembling, programming firmware, training models, etc.
